Overall the quality was good. We ended up ordering two portions of the bora rice and the deep-fried chicken. The fried chicken had a very Japanese-style flavour to it, which we really enjoyed. The beef in the rice dish was a little tough to chew, but everything else was really good. The waitresses were all friendly and helpful throughout. We kept asking for extra wasabi, and they always brought it over very quickly. For a group of five people, spending around £12X felt quite reasonable as well.
First time i visit this place since they moved and I am impressed! They kept their street like ambience whilst combining it with modern restaurant look. They kept all menu items from before which i absolutely looooove!) but added the grill/bbq meats which is cook yourself at the table. They invested im this clearly and I do like the concept. I am sure there is a better traditional Japanese name for this and I have just butchered it with my lack of knowledge but all.i can say, it was lovely and also kind of entertaining for my 4 year old to do
Izakaya has moved next door into the old Co-op and is now going by "Yakiniku". This was my first time visiting since reopening and I was frequent visitor to Izakaya previously. Some of the old menu has transferred across but not everything (ramen no longer available). It would be good if the small plates deal/set menu came back for starter sized portions (previously you could get takoyaki, karaage and gyoza together). Katsu curry, unadon, gyuudon, sashimi don and the sushi menu are still available. There are some vegetarian options but vegan options were quite limited for our vegan friend (they had gyoza and rice). There are now BBQ tables (you can have a normal table or BBQ table) to cook yakiniku at the table. We went at lunch time and there was a good deal for £20 to get two BBQ meats, a rice, miso soup and salad. There was an option to upgrade to 3 meats but we found 2 meats plenty. You need a minimum of 2 people ordering BBQ to be able to use this. We found the lunch deal great value. Not sure if there is a similar option at dinner time. Food came out quickly after ordering and we had good fun using the BBQ. I'm not sure there are many places in Bristol doing this, so a unique offering for now.
Japanese BBQ restaurant in Bristol area. Would recommend booking beforehand as the place gets busy. The price for BBQ meats were pricey and I felt the BBQ sets are not that worth it. We opted to order Ala carte BBQ meat and they were slightly cheaper, but this is just how we felt! Had chicken karaage for starters and it was soft and juicy on the inside. The squeeze of lemon elevated the flavour overall. Our server was helpful and good atmosphere.
Izakaya is a quaint Japanese restaurant, boasting a large menu filled with all your favourites, and some things you've always wanted to try. The atmosphere is so cosy, the murals on the wall add just that extra bit to the atmosphere. The food was perfect, my friend and I had the Pumpkin Katsu that was fried to perfection, being served a healthy portion was an added bonus. The staff were very friendly - the whole dining experience was really relaxed and the food came out quickly. I would highly recommend! Thank you for the lovely experience 😊
