Recently popped in for an impromptu mid week lunch at Little French. The welcome and service throughout was warm and engaging; the food was well cooked, presented well and each dish was flavoursome. My partner particularly enjoyed the infamous aligot! We came away with very full tummies but a smile on our face. Can’t wait to come back again soon!
Where to start? I'd been excited to visit for a long time having never been, so for my birthday my wife booked for a treat to celebrate. Firstly we were greeted somewhat friendly and sat to a table and left with some water and menus, around 15-17 mins then passed until we finally get to order our drinks (fearing being left for so long again we ordered everything at this point) after flagging someone down. Drinks - fantastic, I enjoyed a three crows NZ red my wife a garden something that was non alcoholic. Starters - hands down the best scallops I've had, the butter it was soaked in was exceptional and the quality and cook matched, incredible. Mains - my wife is pregnant so asked if the lamb ratatouille would be suitable and cooked well done with no pinkness - arrived with 6 pieces the 2 outside pieces cooked through each side but the middle ones still pink - bad for her good for me I guess I got to eat them. My main - a blue fillet that I was told was recommended medium rare so I left it to the kitchen, I don't mind rare or blue but it did leave it somewhat cold and hard to cut with a basic knife. Aligot - looks great for insta but had zero taste sadly Final thing that just left me feeling different was the desserts coming out with candles for people's birthdays - not once we're we asked if it was an occasion we celebrating. Then waiting to pay was like waiting to order drinks just feels like your being ignored. This place has an unbelievable following and maybe we caught a bad service but it really didn't live up to it's reputation, plenty of significantly better cooked meals for a similar or cheaper price with much better service, include service charge as standard and hire young professionals I guess there is no incentive to provide that experience any more.
What a great meal last night. The service and atmosphere was fantastic. We loved all the courses, but the stand outs were the scallops, Bavette frites, crème brûlée and the blueberry tart. Probably the best puddings I have ever had, and I’ve had a few.
Absolutely amazing food and atmosphere, group of 4 of us treated ourselves whilst on a weekend away but due to it’s popularity and size of restaurant it is advisable to pre-book far in advance. The menu for all courses were interesting and food was lovely, they certainly knew what they were doing. Would highly recommend and would visit again
Had a lovely birthday dinner at Littlefrench. Staff were so attentive and friendly. The scallops were delicious and buttery and almost sweet. The ceps came in a creamy garlic sauce, the sweet brioche paired so well with the savoury sauce. The lamb was perfectly tender and the sauce soubise was phenomenal. It was so buttery and just a hint of sweet from the onions. The duck breast was a good choice , meat was cooked perfectly , the figs pair really well with the dish and the rosemary potatoes as well. The alligot is definitely worth trying. It was rich and creamy and a good portion for two people. Absolutely loved the crème brûlée here , was perfectly balanced with a caramelised top and silky rich custard. A good indulgent meal for a special occasion. Would highly recommend.
