Excellent Filipino food with authentic flavours and the most friendly and welcoming staff. Big shout out to Francis for taking care of us during service and sharing with us a bit of his life! We'll be back again and again!
The staff are incredibly friendly and so lovely to talk to. Amazing service - wonderful people! The food was unreal, you can taste the love in every dish. Lovely spot to have some authentic, tasty food. Would recommend this to everyone. Delicious 🙏
Small but lovely spot near M Shed (easy to find, a short walk with parking nearby). Friendly, accommodating staff – plus a nice touch being able to speak Tagalog! Food was really good and authentic, more like home-cooked than commercial. We had beef pares, Bicol Express, chicken inasal, pancit, lumpia, and kwek kwek – most served sizzling. Portions were just right and service was quick even for a group of six. Limited indoor seating but outdoor space available when weather’s good (I think takeaway too). Bicol Express could be spicier, but you can likely ask. Don’t miss the homemade ube cake so good! Prices are very reasonable. Toilets are outside. Highly recommended if you’re in Bristol 👍
A new Filipino/pan-Asian/fusion eaterie has sprung up in the place of the old micro-restaurant Daily Noodles in Cargo1 at Wapping Wharf. Rice and Shine have been so popular (heartwarmingly supported by the local Filipino community from we could see), they're run off their feet. The first time we tried to visit, the staff had to take an unscheduled break saying they hadn't stopped since breakfast (it was the evening) and closed the kitchen during peak dinner time. We came back as requested after an hour and waited another 30 mins and they said to wait another 30 mins, so we decided to try again another time since it is a family run restaurant and they were likely experiencing teething issues. This time we fared much better and we're so glad we tried again! Their menu covers a few bases. We thought maybe they were worried that their customers might not like Filipino food, so they opted for a somewhat pan-Asian menu with Japanese, Chinese and Thai options, but honestly from what we could see around us, the Filipino choices were the best. We chose the beef paras, chicken inasal and the spring rolls. We loved the rich, complex flavours of the beef paras and that the spring rolls were clearly home made and totally yummy. We want to try the sizzling sisig, pancit and pork spring rolls next time we visit (yes we were already looking at what to order next time!) The food came out fairly fast, served on sizzling hot plates and are fairly priced with rice included. The cooking is tasty and most importantly, authentically homely. We didn't have time for dessert but they had the likes of ube cake and various cheesecakes (availability varies daily) We will definitely return to explore more Filipino cuisine. Think the team are on a bit of a learning curve - it seemed a bit random whether you had to order inside or if wait staff would attend to you etc, but being a family run business there was a haphazard charm (they were always friendly!) and we're sure they'll learn their way around running FOH. Drinks were mainly canned drinks and they were out of stock of a couple of items like Guyabano tea but the Cargo units are tiny so this is understandable. Looking forward to seeing Rice and Shine go from strength to strength. We'll be back soon :) We'll be sure to return to try their other dishes.
Been here twice now and I would say the food definitely hits the spot. Love the authenticity and unapologetically Filipino dishes in the menu. Service is great, Kelly was super friendly. Will definitely come back for more sisig!
