Getting to Bristol

Bristol is very easy to get to and the city is well served by transport links. This page gives an overview of how to access Bristol by air, road and train.

Air

Visitors from overseas and some major cities in the UK are well catered for by Bristol Airport. The budget airlines Easy-jet and Ryanair operate regular flights from many destinations in Europe and the UK. Other operators serving travellers from Europe include KLM, Air France, Brussels Airlines, Helvetic Airways and Flybe. Air Lingus brings visitors from Ireland and also operates a connecting service from Dublin with flights from New York, Chicago, Boston and Orlando. Bristol Airport is 8 miles from the city centre, a regular bus service operates from the airport to town or you can choose to take a taxi or hire a car. Those arriving at London Heathrow and Gatwick Airports can connect to Bristol by a regular coach service.

Train

Those travelling by train arrive at Temple Meads Station close to the heart of the city. A 10 to 15 minute walk will get you into the center or you can take a bus or taxi. Those travelling by rail should be aware that is often much cheaper to book trains well ahead of the date of travel. Bookings can be made on-line and tickets can be picked up at the station on the day of travel.

Bus

The main Bristol Bus Station is situated in Marlborough Street, very close to the city center.
National Express and Megabus run coaches between major UK cities and Bristol and Bakers Dolphin operates a London Flyer service.
Prices vary so it is worth comparing different companies before making your reservation. Travel by bus is popular so it is wise to book ahead to avoid disappointment and with some bus companies booking in advance is cheaper than buying your ticket on departure.

Car

Bristol is in close proximity to both the M4 and M5 motorways giving great links to the North, South, East and West. The M32 allows direct access from the M4 to the heart of the city. Bristol is easy to navigate on foot or by bus so you do not need a car to explore. Car parking can be expensive so if staying for a few days it would be wise to choose a hotel with parking facilities.
