クリフトン・オブザーバトリー、カメラ・オブスキュラと洞窟

クリフトン・サスペンションブリッジの隣に位置し、小さな丘の道を登るとオブザーバトリーがあります。オブザーバトリーはもともとトウモロコシをひくために建てられた風車で、後にスナッフミルとして使用されました。現在、中に入ってカメラ・オブスキュラを見ることができます。1828年頃に設置され、現在でも稼働しているカメラ・オブスキュラは、暗室内の白い表面に周囲の景色をパノラマで映し出します。これを見学した後は、螺旋階段を降りてGhystonまたはジャイアンツ・ケイブに行き、クリフトン・サスペンションブリッジとエイヴォン・ゴージの素晴らしい景色を見ることができます。階段はかなり狭いので、閉所恐怖症の方は遠慮した方が良いかもしれません。

オブザーバトリーの下の斜面には、大胆な遊び好きによって滑り台として使われていることで年月を経て艶を帯びた岩があります。もし試してみることを決めた場合は、スピードがかなり出ることに気をつけてください
