What I liked most was how easy it was to settle in. The staff were genuinely friendly, not in that forced, overly polite way, but like they actually enjoy working there. I didn’t feel rushed at all, which made a big difference. It’s the kind of place where you go for one drink and somehow end up staying for three. I ordered some classic pub food, nothing fancy, but it really hit the spot. Good portion size, nice and hearty, exactly what you want in that kind of setting. The drinks were solid too—plenty of choice, and it was nice to see some local options rather than just the usual big brands. The atmosphere is probably the best part. It had a proper buzz without being overwhelming. There was a mix of people—locals, students, a few tourists—and it all just blended together nicely. It felt relaxed and social at the same time, which isn’t always easy to get right. Overall, it’s not trying to be trendy or modern, and I think that’s why it works so well. It just feels real. If you’re in Bristol and want somewhere that feels authentic, comfortable, and a bit full of character, I’d definitely recommend giving it a try :)

Flat Eric found me another CAMRA Good Beer Guide pub with a Cask Marque. A real gem of a find. A lovely historic pub that survived a dud WW2 bomb. A small front patio otherwise a front and rear room dating back to 1722 or thereabouts. Think there is also room upstairs. Adolf could not close the pub in WW2 but Bojo The Clown managed it in 2020 - 21. I ticked off 3 new breweries with help from Boothroyd Bear. Hope to come back.

Nice Greene King Pub. Apparently the oldest in Bristol. Nice roaring fire. A bit difficult to get a seat (29th Dec 5pm ish) , upstairs seating closed. Cheers
