We had an amazing experience at Bulrush. Unbelievable food that really comes across as great value for money. We were there for about 3 hours, but absolutely it flew by. All of the courses were delicious, but our particular favourites were: the cheddar Danish swirl with bread and roasted yeast butter, the scallop with mushroom XO sauce, and (the best of the best) was the strawberry dessert with set custard and cajeta. The menu did a wonderful job of tying together comforting, familiar elements with adventurous flavours and textures.
I chose Bulrush as part of a surprise birthday trip I had planned for my girlfriend. After several wonderful days exploring England, this was meant to be our final dinner before flying home—and it couldn’t have been a better choice. As soon as you arrive, this one Michelin-starred restaurant surprises you. You expect one thing, but you get something completely different—in the best possible way. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming rather than formal or intimidating. Everything started with the wonderful staff. Every course was beautifully presented and carefully explained, our dietary requirements were taken seriously, and the wine and drink pairings were excellent. Every dish was full of flavour and creativity—an easy 10/10. Towards the end of the evening, there was a small mistake with one of our additional orders. However, the team reacted immediately and offered us a generous solution without hesitation. That level of customer care is something you don’t come across very often, and it left an even better impression than if nothing had gone wrong. A special thank you to the service team for making the evening so enjoyable. They were warm, funny, attentive and genuinely friendly, making us feel comfortable from start to finish. Highly recommended. If we’re ever back in Bristol, we’ll definitely return. (Regards from Slovakia)
This was my first Michelin restaurant experience, but unfortunately the food did not really suit my taste. I can definitely see that they use unique and very high quality ingredients, but the contrasting flavors and changing spice levels just were not for me. The venue itself was quite small and ordinary. The atmosphere felt very basic and we had to sit at tiny tables. It might be worth trying once just for the experience, but in terms of value for money it just did not work for me. The absolute highlight of the meal was the dessert. If I were rating the dessert alone I would give it a very high score, but the overall experience was simply not my style.
Fabulous food. Some excellent taste combinations. The little pallete cleanser, scallop dish and quail were delicious. I did think the background music was a little too loud. I won't forget the meal. It's always good to serve some bread with the main.
Nice place, bit not sure worth the fuss. Food is delicious and has some amazing and unusual flavour combinations, hovever comparin what we were served to the tables around it seemend that on few occasions they didn't pay equal attention to the dishes (i.e lack of specific items) - consistency could be improved. Staff is nice and welcoming also accomodating some requests. They did sometimes forget the food details. Also we felt rushed out by being told we need to vacate the table in 15 minutes while still having coffee & dessert. All on all an interestinv experience but will not come back
