Very lovely dining experience and extremely accommodating staff. It was my birthday, and I was nicely surprised by a birthday treat, which really made the experience. Extra points for the servers excellent singing.
We will return again. All good we wont wait another year to celebrate and return. Noteworthy the chocolate and Hazelnut dessert, Mixed Seafish selection my partner had and a lovely creamy chicken pasta. I observed on another table some nice looking non pasta food i will try next time. Well done!
I had high expectations for this restaurant given its reputation and pricing, and my past experiences in London, but unfortunately our experience was disappointing. My friend and I, after we were seated by the waiter in the suit, he asked whether we had any allergies. We explained that we don’t consume pork or alcohol. He responded with an exasperated “tehh” before saying, “That’s not an allergy.” While technically correct, the tone felt dismissive and unprofessional. A polite clarification would have been much more appropriate. Also, he shouldn’t have assumed that we were not. When it came time to order, I asked what type of meat was used in the Bolognese. Instead of answering, he simply wrote down “Bolognese.” I repeated my question and asked whether it was all beef. He replied, “Yeah, yeah,” while making a dismissive hand gesture. I then asked whether the dish contained any alcohol, and again he waved his hand dismissively before taking our menus away. The interaction left me feeling that my questions were being brushed aside rather than answered respectfully. I do want to acknowledge that the rest of the staff were excellent. The servers were kind, and a waiter from Albania was incredibly kind, attentive, and welcoming. They checked in on us throughout the meal, made friendly conversation, and genuinely made us feel looked after. The food was good, but not exceptional considering the price. Unfortunately, the service we received from the waiter who initially seated us fell well below the standard I would expect from a high-end restaurant. We paid a premium expecting professional hospitality, and sadly that wasn’t our experience. As we were leaving, the waiter who had initially served us didn’t acknowledge us or even say goodbye, which unfortunately reinforced the impression we had throughout the meal. The lady standing next to him was very nice though. It’s a shame because the rest of the team, were warm, attentive, and a credit to the restaurant. I hope this feedback is received in the constructive spirit it’s intended. This is a high-end restaurant with high standards and prices to match, so I simply expected the level of service and professionalism to reflect that. Unfortunately, our experience with one member of staff fell well below those expectations. It’s safe to say that I’m not coming back here.
I came by to San Carlo, Bristol, after an invite by family. I couldn’t believe in what I was missing out on. The atmosphere is eccentric and the food is divine. The theme of the restaurant, complemented with the background music, fits incredibly well with the true italian cuisine. There are always servers available and looking towards your euphoric experience. They love the feedback. I would definitely come here again and I am very excited for the next time.
Went on Valentines night, atmosphere was good and the restaurant was buzzing and nearly full. Had fillet steak with Parma ham and truffle, my GF had the scallops. Had some fizz and a few Zombie cocktails that are worth trying!
