Disappointing and pricey! Besides the lovely head housekeeper, the staff was not very welcoming and not enthusiastic at all. The general atmosphere was so bland. The room was very dark (just like the building in general) but clean though... I mean, inside, because the windows were disgusting. All the pillows had a strong musty smell. On the bright side: the huge bathroom and the lavish breakfast, very large choice of sweets & savouries.
Met up today with a group of friends for the Sunday lunch. Nobody explained to help yourself to the Market table. Then our Roast dinners appeared. We were given a large bowl of potatoes and veg to share between 2 tables that were 6 feet apart. The food was really nice but I was disappointed with the experience. I have many special memories of the Hotel Du Vin but unfortunately we will not be rushing back 😔
Recently was in Bristol for work and some holiday time. The hotel was quaint, perfect even, for my trip. Excellent beds, and truly wonderful hospitality. Roberto who worked in the bar and restaurant was an amazing host. I couldn’t ask for a better stay. Definitely will be back!
We loved every dish we had here - the pate for starter was some of the best I’ve ever had. The chicken dish we had for main was simple but effective, we ordered a side of chips, which were super crispy. A good range of desserts to finish off the meal. The bottle of house red also complimented the meal well! Staff were super friendly & made our meal even better :)
We went for Sunday lunch on a Wowcher deal. The French buffet had dry and salty salmon. The ‘French dressing’ on the buffet was in fact mustard. When we let the waiter know this he made a bit of a fuss but said he’d let the chef know. Long wait for the mains. When it came the red cabbage was too sweet, not impressed with the Yorkshire pudding, grizzly beef. It’s the attention to detail, even the hand wash in the bathroom was marked as shampoo. Maybe this is why they’re offering wowchers. A big drop off since our last visit. Overall, considering the cost and high expectations of Hotel du Vin we were very disappointed.
